E-invoicing takes care of itself
An e-invoice is an invoice whose data your customer's accounting software can take over directly. In Rechnung Direkt you write your invoice as usual. The PDF you send already contains the e-invoice.
What do I need to do?
Nothing special. Write the invoice, send it by email, done. Your customer sees a normal PDF, and their accounting software reads the data inside.
When does it apply?
In Germany, all businesses must be able to receive e-invoices since 2025. From 2027, businesses with more than €800,000 in revenue in the previous year must also issue them, and from 2028 almost all. Invoices to private customers are not affected.
My customer wants an XRechnung.
Public authorities usually require XRechnung, some companies Peppol. Rechnung Direkt creates both with one click. If a detail is missing, the app tells you beforehand which one.

Questions before you buy
Do I need e-invoices at all?
If you invoice other businesses in Germany, yes. Since 2025, all businesses must be able to receive e-invoices. From 2027, businesses with more than €800,000 in revenue in the previous year must also issue them, and from 2028 almost all. Invoices to private customers are not affected. In Rechnung Direkt, the e-invoice is already contained in the PDF you send.
Is there a subscription or any hidden costs?
No. You pay €49.99 once and use the app for as long as you like. Updates are free, and there are no in-app purchases.
Does one purchase cover Mac, iPad and iPhone?
Yes. You buy Rechnung Direkt once on the App Store and download it with the same Apple Account on all your devices. Your data syncs automatically via iCloud.
Where is my data stored?
On your devices and in your private iCloud. Rechnung Direkt runs no server of its own for your documents and customers, and you don't need an extra account. If you like, the app also creates a backup file automatically.
Can I try the app first?
On the Mac, yes: the free demo shows every feature, with no time limit. PDFs carry a watermark there; exporting and sending are part of the full version. You can carry your company details, customers and items over from the demo to the full version. There is no demo for iPhone and iPad.
Will I get an invoice for my purchase?
Yes, from Apple, since Rechnung Direkt is sold through the App Store. Apple emails the receipt to your Apple Account; the address on it comes from the payment details there. If you want the receipt in your company's name, enter the company address before buying, as Apple does not change it afterwards.
Is Rechnung Direkt GoBD-compliant?
The GoBD are the German rules for digital bookkeeping. No program makes you compliant on its own, but Rechnung Direkt takes care of the technical part: the app assigns sequential invoice numbers, and an invoice is stored permanently when issued and can then be neither changed nor deleted. Corrections are made with a cancellation invoice or an invoice correction. Receipts are kept in their original form, and later changes are logged. You also need a procedural documentation (Verfahrensdokumentation) describing your processes, whichever program you use.
Can I switch from another program?
Yes. You import customers and items from a CSV file, as exported by Excel, Numbers and most invoicing programs. To continue your invoice numbers, adjust the next number in the settings.
Does the app work in Austria and Switzerland too?
Yes. For Austria with Austrian VAT rates and mandatory details, for Switzerland with the QR-bill, Swiss VAT and amounts in francs. Businesses in Luxembourg and France are supported as well.

Is Rechnung Direkt still being developed?
Yes, continuously. Since the launch in April 2026, updates have come out regularly, often several a month, and many new features go back to customer requests.
